What’s Going On

1st Cheddington is an extremely active group. As well as the weekly meetings for all of the sections, we have additional activities, camps, outings and competions for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and Group activities such as fundraising and social events.

Use this section to find out what is going on currently, what's coming up in the future and to see what the group has been upto over the last few months.

Where We Meet

1st Cheddington is extremely lucky as we own our headquarters, along with the surrounding land.

The headquarters dates back to the 1930's and was originally the village hall in Cheddington.  When the new village hall was opened in 1976, the Scout Group continued to meet in the original building and when it was offered for sale in 2001, we took the opportunity to purchase the building and surrounding land. This was only possible following some extremely generous contributions from parents and supporters at the group.

The headquarters consists of a main hall, a small kitchen, equipment stores and a toilet.

Who Are We?

Sections operating at the group

1st Cheddington Scout Group runs two Beaver colonies (Endeavour and Discovery), two Cub packs (Tigers and Wolves) and a Scout troop. We also have the Cetendone Explorer Unit which meets at our headquarters in Cheddington. Although the Explorer Unit is officially attached to our Scout District rather than the Scout Group, the Unit is partnered with 1st Cheddington and operates very closely with the Group. After completing the sections at Cheddington, our members are encouraged to continue their involvement with Scouting either by joining the Scout Network or becoming an adult leader.

Who runs the group and the sections?

We have an enthusiastic and dedicated team of adult leaders who organise and run the weekly meetings of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. They also organise such things as activities, sleepovers and camps. The overall running of the group is overseen by the Group Scout Leader (GSL). The sections are managed by the section leaders aided by assistant leaders, section helpers and young leaders. We are also assisted at our meetings and activities by parents as required.

Replacing Our Headquarters

Our current Scout Headquarters dates back to the 1930s and has been showing its age for a number of years. The hall is also quite small and with the increase in members over the last few years, it is no longer big enough for the numbers attending each evening. The Scout Group is therefore looking to replace it at some time in the future.

We have produced an outline specification for the new building and have received outline planning permission for a initial design; however the cost is estimated to be in the order of £250,000 to £300,000. We therefore need to raise a considerable sum, through fund-raising activities and through gaining grants.

There is also the possibility that a developer may pay for a new building as part of a development of the orchard surrounding our land; however this is not an option favoured within the village.

So currently we continue to fund raise and we continue to watch the potential development of the site.
