Dear All,
As part of the cubs astronomy badge, we are planning to take a trip to the Bayfordbury Observatory, near Hatfield, a working research unit that has many things to offer younger and older astronomers alike. More information can be found here: http://extragalactic.info/Bayfordbury/openevenings/main.php
Bayfordbury Observatory have talks, lab and computer experiments and includes a visit to their telescopes and planetarium. Furthermore, they are planning to run a special pinhole camera lab (pending some red tape clearing), and each cub could be able to go away with their on beer-can sized camera, which they could set up in their garden and obtain a picture like the one you can find here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/thingstodo/activity/bayfordbury-stargazing-night
The cost of attending per child is £2. The cost per adult is £4 (children under 5 go free, although we still need to know numbers).
The proposed schedule for Friday 16.3.2012 is this:
5:30 meet at hut
5:45 leave promptly for Hatfield
6:45 Arrive Hatfield (have a cuppa in the cafe, if time)
7.00 Session Start
9:00 Session Finish
10:15 Arrive at Cheddington (latest)
To secure a large number of places we need to have the following information from each family by Wednesday 18th Jan.
Please reply by e-mail or talk to one of the leaders at the start of the session
Number of paying adults (£4):
Number paying cubs (£2):
Number of children over 5 (£2):
Number of under 5s attending for free:
With this information we shall then investigate the cost of transport, which should be an affordable figure.
Many thanks
James
